Père David’s deer
Père David’s deer, also known as Milu, is a species of deer that is native to China. They were once widespread throughout China but became extinct in the wild due to hunting and habitat loss. The last few individuals were kept in captivity by a Chinese nobleman before eventually being introduced to Europe. Today, Père David’s deer can only be found in captivity in various zoos around the world. Conservation efforts are ongoing to reintroduce the species back into its native habitat in China.
