Squirrel monkeys are highly adaptable and can inhabit a variety of forested habitats, including primary and secondary forests, flooded forests, and mangrove swamps. They are primarily arboreal, spending most of their time in the trees, where they forage for fruits, insects, and other small prey. Squirrel monkeys are known for their high-pitched vocalizations and social behavior, often living in groups known as troops. They are an important part of the ecosystem in their range and play a role in seed dispersal and insect control.
